Breast Reduction

Those who feel inconvenienced by a larger bustline may decide that breast reduction surgery is the best way to remedy the problem.

Women who are physically disabled by or dissatisfied by the size of their chest may want to have a breast reduction.

Preparation

Before surgery, you will sit down with your doctor and discuss your medical history, as well as what you wish to accomplish through surgery. Your doctor will help provide you with an understanding of what your breasts will look like post-surgery.

The Surgery


Breast reduction surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made at the base of each breast, and excess fatty tissue is removed. Skin is pulled up over the areola, a new incision is made, much like slipping a button through a button hole. The surgeon sometimes reshapes the breast and sutures it back into place. In some instances, liposuction may be implemented to remove fat, leaving the patient with less scarring and a quicker recovery time.
